白颊噪鹛White-browed Laughingthrush

脸上一道醒目的乳白色宽眉纹从额侧延伸到耳后，体羽棕褐，尾下覆羽棕红。俗名「土画眉」正说明了它与画眉的关系——两者同属噪鹛类的近亲，但白颊噪鹛的眉纹更宽、更白，也更粗犷。A broad, creamy-white eyebrow stripe runs from the forehead to behind the ear, with rufous-brown plumage and reddish-brown feathers under the tail. Its folk name “local hwamei” reflects its kinship with the hwamei — both are close relatives among the laughingthrushes, but this species has a broader, whiter and bolder eyebrow.

如其名，嗓门极大。常成小群在灌丛底层和地面落叶间翻找，一边活动一边发出连续、嘈杂而带笑声感的叫声，往往先听到声音，再从枝叶缝隙里看到它们。True to its Chinese name (“noisy babbler”), it is very loud. Small flocks rummage through the lower shrubs and leaf litter, calling continuously with noisy, laugh-like notes — you usually hear them first, then spot them through gaps in the leaves.
